Target + Liana recipes + Beavers Investiture

Evelyn participated in the madness that was opening day of Target. We made a morning out of it by walking there and back with Becka. There were many new things for Evelyn to look at.

We had a visit from a friend and her three year old. Of note, the kid thought our (closed) swimming pool was a trampoline which was such a scary thought. Why do these two things look so much alike?!

Liana's babysat three times this past week. Also she had a new friend that's in her class sleepover last Friday. They have similar taste in music, they're both diehard Buffy fans, and they sang along to Mamma Mia. Liana's currently away at a 3-day leadership camp. She's still into photographing her food so here are a few recipes she made on the weekend.

Basic vegan crepes with blueberry agave syrup
No bake lemon squares

Fried potato skins (vegan doesn't always have to be healthy!) and tofu risotto with vegan parmesan

Caleb started Beavers and swim class. There was an investiture nature walk for Beavers that took place at a really pretty part of the nearby bike path.

Caleb's camera shy look
The whole Beaver colony
Pretty sunset over the Ottawa river
In other news, I went for all-you-can-eat sushi with a friend and had that lovely parent experience of the baby puking in my hair and down my back right as I was about to head out. And Evelyn visited daddy at work and met most of our co-workers.

Here are some miscellaneous pictures taken recently.

Sometimes on rough days Evelyn falls asleep like this
Only the second time Caleb decided he'd like to hold Evelyn (he says she's too heavy!)
Gearing up for a walk on one of the warmer days
Nomnom blanky
Playing King of Tokyo with Caleb (I totally crushed him)

Month 3 Milestones

Here's the third milestone installment.

Evelyn's new things are:
- drools
- grabs things (blanket, soother)
- makes new sounds (screeching/giggling)
- stopped grunting (due to her expanded vocabulary!)
- smiles more regularly
- lifts head in a less wobbly manner
- sleeps up to 9 hours at night (but most often one long bout of 5-6 hours followed by a shorter bout of 1-3 hours)
- sits in high chair for dinnertime with the rest of the family
- stares at herself in the mirror
- sometimes notices her feet
- pets mommy while nursing
- watches (preseason) hockey games

Ready for photoshoot
Noticing your foot is a guaranteed distraction
Laughing with me or at me
"Bored now"
Sneazing with her entire body
Modest pose

Boat cruise + Toothfairy + Orleans Fall Festival

Friday night Darcy and I went to a vow renewal ceremony on the occasion of friends' ten year wedding anniversary. We were so keen that we were the first to arrive and were told it would be another half hour before we could board so we had to go kill time at a nearby bar. The speeches were super sweet and the couple's kids were total party rockstars. It was quite the party and a neat tribute to mark ongoing love and commitment. Unfortunately I didn't bring a camera so I'm waiting on pictures a friend took.

I found out later that Caleb lost his first tooth Friday. Apparently he didn't notice it fall out until a friend asked him about it on the school bus. He spent Friday night at his dad's where the toothfairy left $6 under his pillow even though there was no tooth (sketchy, right? plus holy inflation!).

The first ever picture of Caleb's tonsils
This is more what I was going for
Saturday we took all the kids to the first ever Orleans Fall Festival. We walked about 6km which meant managing Caleb whinyness.Solution? Occasionally run! When compared to running walking is easy.

The kid takes maple leaves seriously
She had no idea we would eventually dress her in layers
FREE food at the Garlic King
The King himself proclaimed money is not as important as friends and community
There was also a boy kissing a bird
And a girl talking about reptiles
Stroller break
We bumped into some friends
Near a new diner where some of us tried samples of deep fried cheese curds and mango pudding
Everyone loves a bouncy castle
Evelyn taking it all in
Liana hasn't been doing as much cooking and baking since school started up again but here are a few she has made.

Strawberry and Banana Nice Cream
Vegan Mango Lassi

Evelyn does normal baby things

Evelyn's feeling better from her cold. We haven't done anything special these last few days but here are some pictures of Evelyn doing her normal stuff.

Evelyn takes a bath.

Evelyn wears a princess dress and visits grandparents. Liana took these pictures.

Evelyn plays on a quilt and complains about tummy time.

Drool baby!
"Help me!"

Evelyn's bedtime thing.

We tuck her in this way
But in the morning we find her this way
With her feet between the bars
Evelyn plays on her change table.

Evelyn cuddles her blanky.

And that's mostly what Evelyn's been up to!
