The Hartwicks do Halloween...over a five day period

Saturday - Halloween Party Kiddystyle v3

Last weekend we hosted our third annual kids Halloween party. For the first time in the history of parties we've hosted we may have been short on food. I had all these thematic snack foods I'd planned to make on a Pinterest board a month in advance but then I started this fitness challenge and Pizza Mummies, Sand Wiches, Booger Dip, Butterfinger Dip, and other such delicacies would have been just too tempting (I tend to eat as I cook/bake). So we served store-bought foods and a few guests served some extras.

There were a few organized games this year: bobbing for apples, toilet paper mummies contest, and cookie cutter basketball. Winners won a Halloween flashlight. My mother-in-law brought some frosted cupcakes and lots of themed toppings for the kids to each decorate their own. There was also an unplanned TP activity!

Sunday - Rattle Me Bones

Caleb and I ran the Rattle Me Bones 2K t-bone race in support of bone cancer research at The Ottawa Hospital. This was also a costume friendly race. I was worried because Caleb isn't very active but he did great and we had a lot of fun. I didn't tell him he would get a medal at the finish line as I wanted it to be a surprise. He's very proud of his "first ever medal", as he calls it.

Monday - Scouts party

Caleb's Beaver colony attended a Haunted House party hosted by the Cubs. He had a lot of fun!

Tuesday - Pumpkin carving

Caleb got his hands dirty! Yeah. He usually doesn't want to help clean out the pumpkin because he hates the sliminess. This year he helped separate the seeds from the pulp. Darcy did most of the cleaning out of the pumpkin and I did the carving. I pureed the pulp and used it to make a cheeze sauce for Liana and roasted the pumpkin seeds. Liana meanwhile didn't partake in the pumpkin fest because she was baking.

Wednesday - Haunted house craft

Darcy helped Caleb with the foundation of this lovely home and Caleb mostly did the rest himself. Oh, and Dexter ate most of the fondant later that night...

Thursday - Trick or treating

Darcy took care of Evelyn and handing out candy, I took Caleb trick or treating, and Liana went to a friend's party after school and then trick or treating with a group.

A note on costumes

We didn't buy any this year! One by one our costumes just got resolved. Darcy and I reused our caveman/woman costumes. Caleb reused his ghost costume from last year and was gifted a very nice wizard costume. Liana ordered her costume custom-made from Japan and paid for it herself with babysitting money. She also reused an older costume for school. And Evelyn, well, we just kept finding suitable costumes in our house.
